Hosted by our faculty, the 1st International Foreign Language Education Symposium was held online. The session manager wass our Faculty's Department of Foreign Language Education, English Language Education Department Lecturer and Rector's Social Affairs Institution Assistant Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müzeyyen Nazlı GÜNGÖR. To the symposium opening event; our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa YILDIZ, Dean of Gazi Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Mahmut SELVI, Chairman of the Symposium Organizing Committee, Department of Foreign Language Education, Department of French Language Education Prof. Dr. Perihan YALÇIN, faculty members, guests and students attended.

In his speech, starting by expressing thanks for the participants for their participation in the International Foreign Language Education Symposium, our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa YILDIZ informed the participants that oral presentations will be made in four different languages, namely English, German, Turkish, French and Arabic. In addition to this, it is stated that scientific research and current, applied and theoretical knowledge in the field of foreign language education will be shared, the use of technology in foreign language teaching, teaching foreign language skills, foreign language teaching policies, testing and evaluation, material development, teacher training, linguistics and subjects such as translation studies will be discussed. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa YILDIZ stated: “I think that this event will have important outputs in terms of understanding how the distance education process we are in shapes foreign language teaching. However, I believe that your participation and contributions will shed light on current issues related to foreign language education. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the realization of the symposium.”

Speaking at the opening program, Gazi Education Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mahmut SELVI; started by saying "Welcome to the symposium that will be hosted by Gazi Education Faculty with your valuable participation," he underlined the international nature of the symposium and stated that the sharing of information in the symposium will contribute significantly to the work of valuable researchers. He concluded his speech by thanking everyone who contributed to the organization.

After Prof. Dr. SELVI, Symposium Organizing Committee Chairperson Prof. Dr. Perihan YALÇIN stated that they had to hold this symposium online due to the global epidemic and that the purpose of the symposium is to have information about current studies in the field of foreign languages and thanked all the participants for their participation in the first international symposium.

After the opening speeches, our Faculty's Foreign Language Education Department, English Language Education Department Emeritus Lecturer and Ufuk University Lecturer and Prof. Dr. Abdülvahit ÇAKIR made his presentation as the first invited speaker of the symposium.

At the 1st International Foreign Language Education Symposium, 123 papers were presented with the participation of three invited speakers in four sessions between 28-30 June 2021.
